From the gardens to class.Baku Brain, 14 years
Brain, a 14 year old boy with hearing and speech impairment finally has something to be happy about. In 2012, Brain was one ANPPCAN’s beneficiaries in Luuka district.
Brian who hails from Bukaana, Bukoomasimbi sub county in Luuka district has really had a rough childhood. When he was seven, he suffered severe malaria which left him with a hearing impairment. To make things worse, his father too was paralysed.
“I did not think i would make it since the sickness kept on intensifying each and every day“ says brian.
On being taken to hospital, Brian was diagonized with ear and speech complications. Ever since, healing has rather been gradually and the sickness has left him deaf and dumb.
“I thought that my child would never be like other children“ commented Elizabeth his mother. Imagine a child who has been going to school normaly turning to using gestures. she further narrated.
To his parents, Starting a new life using gestures meant Brian dropping out of school since they had never imagined a deaf child going to school. “I would just look at my fellow children go to school every morning and see them back home in the evening“, Brian narates. My daily schedule changed from being in school to being at home helping my mother with daily house chores.
